CITY OF ANDERSON, ALASKA
RESOLUTION 03-04
A RESOLUTION FOR CONTINUED SUPPORT AND OPERATION OF THE ANDERSON AND CLEAR POST OFFICES.
WHEREAS, The City of Anderson feels that a Post Office at both Anderson and Clear are essential for our residents, and
WHEREAS, Citizens residing in Anderson and the surrounding area are not authorized to enter Clear Air Force Station due to security restrictions,
WHEREAS, Citizens residing on Clear Air Force Station are serving a remote tour and do not have transportation to commute to Anderson,
WHEREAS, The City of Anderson is located 80 miles south of Fairbanks, and we do not have access to other means of shipping items, UPS, Air Borne, Mail Boxes Etc, Etc.
WHEREAS, The Post Office is the central meeting place in both communities, and
WHEREAS, The City of Anderson feels that it is essential that sufficient hours of operation at both sites be considered to provide all our residents access to the US Mail service, and
WHEREAS, The City of Anderson feels that the current proposed hours at Clear will not enable all personnel to have the availability of window hours during their scheduled time off, especially since the majority of personnel work shift schedules, and
WHEREAS, Business at Clear is just getting started at 10:30 am, not concluding for the day. All business transactions will be delayed one day, this could be crucial to our defense and safety of our nation.
WHEREAS, The City of Anderson feels that dividing one full-time position between both sites will not provide adequate service at both sites, and
WHEREAS, The City of Anderson feels that this solution will not save the Postal Service, but actual increase their costs due to increased personnel wages, overtime and benefits, and
WHEREAS, The City of Anderson supports local hire preference.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY OF ANDERSON, ALASKA, supports the continued operation of both Anderson and Clear Post Offices that will provide adequate service at both sites.
PASSED AND APPROVED BY A DULY CONSTITUTED QUORUM OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF ANDERSON, ALASKA, THIS 5TH DAY OF SEPTEMBER 2002.
