CITY OF ANDERSON, ALASKA
RESOLUTION 03-06
A RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT FOR THE CONTINUAL MAINTENANCE AT THE ANDERSON/CLEAR AIRPORT.
WHEREAS, The City of Anderson feels that the maintenance at the Anderson/Clear Airport is essential for the health and welfare of our citizens, and
WHEREAS, Citizens residing in Anderson, Clear and the surrounding area utilize the airport for Medivacs, and
WHEREAS, The City of Anderson is a volunteer Emergency Medical Service and we currently have only one EMT II and one EMT III, and
WHEREAS, To transport patients by ambulance that have had level
II or III interventions, must be transported by an EMT II
or higher, and
WHEREAS, Since January 2002, we have had nine medical evacuations that have been time critical. In at least one case, the medical evacuation resulted in one life being saved, and
WHEREAS, During Memorial weekend of 2002, the City of Anderson had a fire break out in the center of town, luckily with the right wind direction and quick response from surrounding communities, and Forestry we were able to quickly control the fire. In 2001, the airport was used for three large fires in the surrounding area as a staging area, and
WHEREAS, The Anderson/Clear Airport was essential for the staging area and a place to land the planes to quickly reload and refuel, and
WHEREAS, The City of Anderson feels that without the quick response of Forestry and the use of the airport, the fire could have easily consumed the majority of the town, and
WHEREAS, Under current military plans, the Clear airport is to be used to evacuate Air Force personnel to Eielson Air Force Base in the event of a disaster situation, and
WHEREAS, In the event of a terrorist attack, the airport would be critical to receive air support from Eielson and Elmendorf Air Bases, and
WHEREAS, Since January 2002 the airport has had six dignitary visitors utilize the airport, congressional staffers, generals and colonels.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY OF ANDERSON, ALASKA, supports the continued maintenance of the Anderson/Clear Airport to provide essential emergency life threatening medical transportation, terrorist evacuations, troop evacuations and quick fire response protection for our residents.
PASSED AND APPROVED BY A DULY CONSTITUTED QUORUM OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF ANDERSON, ALASKA, THIS 5TH DAY OF SEPTEMBER 2002.
