CITY OF ANDERSON, ALASKA
RESOLUTION 03-25
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ANDERSON ENCOURAGING THE GOVERNOR OF ALASKA TO RECONSIDER ELIMINATING THE REVENUE SHARING, SAFE COMMUNITY AND MUNICIPAL CAPITAL GRANT PROGRAMS FROM THE STATES FY04 BUDGET.
WHEREAS, The City of Anderson is a second class city of 592 residents;
WHEREAS, Eliminating these programs will have a negative impact on our residents in our community, and
WHEREAS, These programs have helped us to provide valuable and essential services to our residents, and
WHEREAS, Elimination of these programs will decrease or eliminate valuable and essential services to our residents, and
WHEREAS, The City of Anderson has a limited tax base to assess our residents for its services since one half of it's residents reside on the military base, and
WHEREAS, The City of Anderson has established enterprises to help support our city operations and also established a utility tax, and
WHEREAS, The Capital Matching Grant Program provides essential job training for our youth and has been essential for upgrading our streets and streetlights, and
WHEREAS, The City of Anderson has a very limited number of businesses that hires children under 18 during the summer season, this will cause the children under 18 to be on the highway commuting to and from work a minimum of 50 miles a day to locate employment, and
WHEREAS, The City of Anderson feels that elimination of these programs will have a detrimental effect on our children being able to enter the work force as adults with the essential training, and
WHEREAS, The transition of Clear Air Force Base from Air Force personnel to Alaska Air National Guard will impact our community by requiring additional services, housing and land development, and
WHEREAS, The City of Anderson has been negatively impacted by increased fees mandated by the State, such as permit and inspection costs for our Sewage Lagoon.
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved the City Council of the City of Anderson encourages the Governor to fully fund the aforementioned programs.
PASSED AND APPROVED by a duly constituted quorum of the City Council of Anderson, Alaska this 13th day of June 2003.
