Job Announcement: Laborer
The City of Anderson is seeking a mature responsible adult to fill the position of Laborer.
This is a temporary, part time position with the possibility of becoming permanent.
Wage $20.00-$25.00 per hour DOE.
Duties
- Perform a variety of extensive maintenance, operation, and upkeep of City equipment including duties in and around the assigned buildings, facilities and sewage lagoon operations.
- General labor as assigned by the Public Works Supervisor to include preparing tools, materials and equipment; holds, moves, rearranges, lifts, carries and stacks items and heavy objects; cleans tools, equipment and work areas.
- Performs multiple unskilled labor tasks to include painting, trash pick-up, cold-patching, mowing, landscaping, cutting limbs and trees, digging ditches, filling, and leveling holes.
- Performs building maintenance such as janitorial/custodial assignments. General duties of sanitation, floor mopping, carpet vacuuming, garbage collection, rest room sanitation, sweeping, window washing, etc.
Requirements-Conditions of Employment
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a state issued driver’s license/CDL within 90 days of employment.
- May be required to lift on occasion up to 50 lbs.
- Must have experience in operating and repairing heavy equipment.
- Incumbent is required to wear protective safety equipment, such as safety shoes, safety glasses with side shields, goggles, hearing protection, hard hat, safety harness, coveralls or respirators.
- Incumbent is required to work as scheduled (0-40 hours per week), unscheduled emergency overtime including nights, weekends and holidays.
- Works inside and outside for long periods under varying conditions.
Minimum Qualifications:
There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
